The Three Words of Writing

Dharmesh Shah over at OnStartups.com recently posted startup advice in exactly three words. I loved it. So, here’s my version of it, for business writing*:

  • “Good enough” isn’tThe three words
  • Romance the details
  • Don’t trust yourself
  • Collaborate, collaborate, collaborate
  • Know your customers
  • Remember your customers
  • Use the product
  • Try new technologies
  • Explore new territory
  • Always be clear
  • Always have fun
  • Make it beautiful
  • Keep it true
  • Get enough sleep
  • Know the rules
  • Follow the rules
  • Break the rules
  • Use small words
  • Use few words
  • Stay on target
  • Nobody likes boring
  • Invest in others

What are your three words?

*This includes tech writing, white papers, proposals, B2B materials, etc.
